RE: Geckos, Dolphins, Candles, Floats, Wax Monks and more…

Journal Entry, 12/01/2004
Have you ever….
1. Named a jumping spider living in your kitchen?
2. Grabbed the camera to capture the baby gecko residing in your bedroom?
3. Seen a dolphin dance Thai style and greet you with the traditional Thai Wai?
4. Feel compelled to say hello to a monk who sat so still you finally realized IT wasn’t alive?
5. Listened as your friend (Kevin) told you about a lady whose hair just caught fire as she bowed in prayer by the riverside?
6. Eaten bamboo that was so spicy your taste buds started jumping ship?
7. Ranted about the ants you killed in the night as they wandered on your arm?
Well, all these and more have been available to experience as we approach the beginning of month four in Rayong Thailand. And we know that this is still very much the beginning. >
Thanksgiving in Rayong
Last week we enjoyed a delicious Thanksgiving times two; one on Sunday with our Thai Christian brothers and sisters, the other on Friday with the mission team. Feast one was turkey Western style. The Thai dishes on the side added so much flavor that all the past turkey feasts find it hard to compete.
Feast two was shared mostly among fellow farang but with a few Thai friends. The menu: Hamburgers American style. Both feasts left us so full that it took a couple days to get the digestive system back to normal - particularly the delicious hamburgers though… I think our systems have adjusted to a lighter food source. One burger was all it took to fill up the tank. Seconds? No Can Do!
Note: Turkeys are hard to come by in Thailand, but where there is a will there is a way. Once you find the turkey the next thing to do is find an oven to bake them in - not very easy to find an oven that will comfortably fit such a bird. We ended up micro-waving a good portion of the turkey as parts were not fully cooked. Still - it tasted super.
