Jacob Marley was dead as dead as a doornail

This has been the “inspirational” phrase of today! I have repeated it multiple times, pondered its significance, blurted the phrase out when I exchanged holiday cheer - Merry Christmas, Happy New Year…; and just now mentioned it to Ginger.
I do believe this is the first Christmas I have actually gone through without watching or reading “A Christmas Carol”! I can hardly believe it! Even last Christmas - in Thailand - I was eagerly issued through the classic via DVD.
I suppose the fact struck me today that I missed something this Christmas and so the phrase popped into some crevice of my brain where it was noticed. But is has proved to be interesting, and has me thinking about what is ahead, how this year will be lived and where it is all going.
I usually make it a habit of sitting down with Ginger, notebook in hand and walking through where last year has got us and where this year is going. I am still anticipating that even as we work at the last stages of cleaning out the dorm we lived in all last semester and unpacking all the boxes of stuff in our new little apartment across the campus. There is a lot happening and pieces both Ginger and I really want to tie together… one room at a time… one box at a time…
Last night I read in Isaiah 66:1-2
“This is what the LORD says: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Could you ever build me a temple as good as that? Could you build a dwelling place for me? My hands have made both heaven and earth, and they are mine. I, the LORD, have spoken! “I will bless those who have humble and contrite hearts, who tremble at my word. ” (NLT)
As these words caught my eyes and heart there was an internal nod, “Yes, Yes, more than my doings this year, LORD cause my heart to tremble and my ear to be listening even more than anything else, I know this is what I want this year to be about.”
There should be plenty of occasion to listen, hear and follow through this year! Serving as Mentors for the married student couples here in the same housing, filling out the application for People International, working out a business plan for a Web Development for Missions, Reading, playing, studying and growing with Gabrielle and Hanakah, welcoming our newest family member - REAL soon, unpacking and repacking items we know we want to move with us in May… I am sure there is more - I am done thinking about it for now though.

Ok, so the edit I addedd today was to rename Bob and go back to Jacob Marley. I laughed when it was pointed out to me the similarity between names and the fact I was way off :-)
Here is what was said to me about this post and Bob Marley:

When I first read yor article I thought -Bob Marley- what a coincidence that the character in “A Christmas Carol” had the same name as the famous Reggae artist. Several hours went by before it dawned on me that it was Jacob Marley and Bob Crachit in the story. It was a real cartoon type moment for me… might be the potential for “A Bob Marley Christmas Carol Special.” However, that might be tough because he is dead - deader than a door nail.
