Snow Day - Breath and Strategy

Check out this recent photo - it took my breath away before and after the shutter clicked.
Rainier Sunrise

This was a moment of space in between stops. Note: the flight had nothing gourmet to taste despite the trailer in the forefront :-)

It has now been 3 months on the job. MercyMe is playing in my headset and my heartcry is reaching the throne. I am amazed, in awe, and have quickly discovered that on my knees is the only way to move forward.

Today I am making it a point to step back and look at all the projects going and those coming up - add a some strategy and organization. How do you maintain sanity in a job that is defined by “special projects?” The guy on the local radio said that overtime and piling additional projects on the schedule does not result in greater effectiveness. That is a good thought… in theory… My goal is to find a way to maintain the “can do” mentality while setting realistic expectations for new assignments, goals and even relationships. Generally I have a drop and run reflex - wanting to serve where the felt need is greatest at any given moment aka “the tyranny of the urgent”. I’ve learned to control that to some extent and find myself wanting to develop this skill a bit more. The challenge seems to be multiplied by the many factors that make the lifestyle we have chosen far from predictable or “normal”. (As if a “normal lifestyle” really existed…)

Translation of the above paragraph:
A pile of papers on my desk will be filed before I leave the office today
Today I’ll abide by my number one rule at work and at home: Stay Calm (don’t freak out)
Time will be given to strategizing as well as to tasks
I’ll listen to the life-skill tips my wife shares with me from the FlyLady
My calendar will reflect the commitments made for this month and next
Take time for lunch - now ;-)
Family vacation will be posted on the office calendar

Ok, enough for now. Back soon though.
(What did you think of that photo?)

That photo is amazing! I love the contrast also… The gorgeous snow covered mountain with the sunset beauty - and then the great composition of the Northwest Hanger, meal cart, and the plane. Even the slight reflection of the indoor lights, kinda tells more of the story when you look longer.

thanks for sharing it with us!

Beka, Glad you liked the picture! It was indeed one of the “not to miss” moments. I love it when you get an open door like this and time seems to stand still. The Creator of Light is truly the artist!

Sarah, do you want to hike Ranier? It is about 165 miles north of us. Definitely on our list of places to hike in the near future. Miss you too :-)

Hey Tim! I don’t know if you remember me, but I was a student at Bethany when you were here. Looking at your website makes me want to have one of my own so much!! I know that you taught a class on making a website (but I was on internship) and I was wondering if there is any way for you to explain it to me in an email. Or at least the sites that you use for hosting and such.

    Thanks!!
